Mature-node fab utilization approaches 90% in 2026 and EOL notices keep coming. From notice to full discontinuation there are only 12–18 months — the last-time-buy window is shorter than you think.
With AI absorbing advanced-node capacity and capex, mature nodes of 28nm and above have become the invisible bottleneck. Industry tracking puts mature-node fab utilization near 90% in 2026, up from about 80% in 2025, and some foundries are shrinking or reallocating legacy capacity. Tighter capacity amplifies an old problem: the density of end-of-life notices.
The EOL clock is shorter than you think
- From EOL notice to full discontinuation is typically 12–18 months;
- After the last-time-buy deadline, final shipments usually leave a 6–12 month window;
- Long-lifecycle categories — MCUs, analog and power devices — are where automotive, industrial and medical customers are most exposed.
What a sound LTB looks like
A last-time buy is not historical usage times a factor. A sound calculation includes a 5–10 year installation and service demand forecast, a consolidated ledger of on-hand and in-transit stock, an alternate-qualification timeline, and an order plan reverse-scheduled from the EOL calendar. Under-buying ends in expensive spot purchases; over-buying ties up cash in excess inventory.
This is the home ground of Xinyuda Electronics: shortage and EOL sourcing, excess inventory buyback and consignment for OEM and EMS customers, with ISO9001- and AS9120-certified incoming inspection standing behind critical deliveries.
